WANDI HOUSE

Wandi, a suburb named after a highly regarded Aboriginal stockman who drove sheep into paddocks around Cockburn Sound in the early 20th century, is now designated as a special rural place. The larger property sizes allow owners to keep horses and other animals, which is why the owners of this house decided to move from their suburban property.

Located in a sensitive floodplain area within the Jandakot Regional Park, the house is covered in stunning natural bush vegetation.

Against this beautiful natural backdrop, the Wandi house was designed to capture views of the bush from a raised plateau while also providing privacy and protection for the public road. This core theme is achieved through the incorporation of a dramatic central spine wall constructed in stabilised earth. This wall symbolically divides the home into two parts: one side transparent and completely immersed in the natural bush setting, while the other side provides a protective front to the road.
